I love a good start-from-scratch brand project, complete with untapped creativity and limitless possibilities.

But what if you don’t need the Full Monty? Maybe your logo needs a refresh and your brand (complete with fonts, color palettes and design elements) needs to be built out. This is great, too.

Meet my client AVDA (Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse). This organization does the MOST incredible work by promoting  violence-free relationships and social change by offering alternative choices to end violence and domestic abuse. They had a logo for many years that needed refreshing and had no brand guidelines to work with. After working with them on various collateral pieces, they were finally ready to take the plunge.

Here is the original AVDA logo.

My approach to this project was to keep certain elements to maintain some continuity, and the AVDA type was legally required to stay. After exploring several options, here is what was decided on:

A few things to notice: The original outline of the flower was retained, but evolved into a different graphic element that lends a bit more visual interest than the static flower. Since purple is the official color of domestic violence, it made sense to incorporate that into the palette. While the AVDA lettering was required to stay the same font, I softened up the tagline and made it more modern, and we removed the spelled-out name of the organization since it always appears on collateral and wasn’t necessary to be part of the logo itself.

In addition to the logo refresh, I built out the brand as you can see here:

Moving forward, my client now has a logo they are excited to promote and a brand guide to craft professional and consistent materials moving forward.
