You know I’m sort of old-fashioned when it comes to business. I love all FOUR of my Apple products as much as the next person, but only in conjunction with sound business practices. Like the good ol’ handshake and card swap.
Not the “full-on assault, I think everyone in this room wants my business card and I don’t care who you are and what you do” swap, but the thoughtful “hey I really enjoyed talking with you and maybe we could get connected and learn more about each others’ business” transaction. We all know the difference and nobody likes the first option.
So I loved this article about how even though we’re living and working in such a fast-paced, high-tech world, the business card can still work wonders. Nobody likes to stand around while someone is going through the process of inputting your information into their phone. You lose eye contact, your train of thought, and frankly, it can be awkward standing around while this is taking place. Isn’t it easier to hand over the card, smile and say thank you, and continue with relationship-building?
And how awesome is it when the person compliments you on your cool card? And then remembers you the next day when they’re back at their desk with your card?
