Are you back to a normal routine yet?
Here in South Florida, it’s been an odd month. Due to advances in meteorology, we knew Irma was coming for what felt like forever. Our shutters were up for THREE DAYS before she arrived. Then the 24-7 news (I’ll admit it; I couldn’t stop watching). Followed by cancelled plans, the actual storm, the non-stop junk food, the loss of power, and finally assessing things in the aftermath.
Did you have damage? Did you lose power? Did you lose your mind?
Once the power came back (hours or days), we realized we dodged a major bullet. When we saw those who weren’t so lucky, it felt uncomfortable discussing our own exhaustion and anxiety.
I have yet to talk to anyone in the past two weeks who didn’t reference Irma in some way or another. And when those conversations are related to our business, our ongoing projects, our schedules, it adds another dimension. Meetings were cancelled, attention was diverted, priorities were shifted, as they should. But now what?
We just get back into it and pick up where we left off. My project list is long, my clients are hustling and we’re doing what we do best: support one another, adjust when necessary and appreciate our routine that much more. After you’ve had a conference call sitting in front of a generator-fueled fan with your computer running off your phone’s hot spot, you appreciate the little things.
So let’s get back to it: our daily grind. Let’s power up our computers without a second thought, work hard in the luxury of air conditioning, and daydream out our windows, unfettered by shutters.
How did you fare? Send me an email here and let me know.
